15 August 2026 · Independence Day · 8:00–11:00 AM · 10–15 minute session · Schools & colleges across India
The practice
Sangamam invites students to join a simple breath-awareness meditation (Anapanasati) for 10 to 15 minutes, at any convenient time between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM on 15th August 2026 — Independence Day. On this day of celebrating our nation's freedom, this collective meditation offers students a chance to reflect on inner independence, discipline, and calm — strengthening their role as conscious, responsible citizens.
Universal, secular & inclusive
This breath-awareness practice is non-religious and secular — it involves no rituals, symbols or affiliations, making it suitable and inclusive for students of every background.
Why this matters
India's students face rising academic pressure and stress. A growing body of research shows that a short daily breathing practice can make a real, measurable difference.
A randomized controlled trial found mindfulness breathing meditation significantly reduced stress, anxiety and depression scores among students — with effects holding at 4-week follow-up.
A study of Indian high-schoolers found daily deep-breathing practice produced significantly lower stress scores than a control group over the same period.
Daily mindful-breathing practice significantly reduced test anxiety in students preparing for high-stakes exams.
In one classroom program, the share of students reporting high stress and anxiety fell from about one-third to zero by the end of the program.
